SBE Chapter 9, Inc. Minutes & Financial Report
June 2008
Chairman Chairman Dwight Morgan called the regular monthly meeting on June 9, 2008 at AVR Phoenix at 12:00 PM in conjunction with Larry Bloomfield and the Taste of NAB Tour. Also present were vice chairman Chuck Beck, and Secretary/Treasurer Robert Reymont. Self introductions followed. 25 members and guests attended.
The minutes of the March 2008 meeting were approved by voice vote without reading. There was no meeting in April but the annual picnic was a success. Secretary Treasurer Robert then gave a financial report for the period ending on May 31, 2008. They were approved as read. Reymont said income totaled $216.00 for the month from dues and dividends. Expenses for the month totaled $146.66 for the annual picnic. The minutes and financial report were approved as read. They are attached.

Dwight Morgan said he was excited about becoming chairman and said he hoped to increase membership and income and make the chapter more viable. He mentioned the possbiliity of selling surplus broadcast equipment donated from local stations on the Website to raise money.
Robert Reymont said the chapter had 5 new members and had just received the annual rebate check of $706.50 from National, an increase from last year. He also suggested a committee to find a new pizza and beer party location as the old one had been remodeled and had apparently eliminated the private room used for parties in the past. Past Chairman Rick Salsman volunteered to head that committee.
Chuck Beck announced upcoming meetings including the October meeting where Arbitron would talk about PPM, the new rating reporting system. He also said July would be Axia Audio, August, the pizza and beer and party.
Brad Newberry, member of the Golder Scholarship Committee, said for the second year in a row the Board of the James F. Golder Memorial Scholarship Fund has selected three deserving candidates to receive scholarship awards. Also as discussed during the June SBE meeting, the “Fund” has not received any significant contributions in the past few years. He said total income last year was $ 2,000.25 all from interest. They paid out $ 4,500 in scholarship awards and another $1,230 in taxes and legal expenses. The Board is very grateful for the continued support of SBE. This year’s recipients of awards are: Elizabeth Miller$ 1,000, Recipient from last year; Paul Hale- $1,000, New award; and Todd Martino-$500, One semester till graduation Newberry also indicated that Roger Carter, member of the committee would match any contributions up to $1,000. The SBE members present then voted unanimously to direct Secretary Reymont to donate $10,000 to the Golder Scholarship fund.
The Meeting was then adjourned. The meeting was turned over to Larry Bloomfield for his “Taste of NAB Show.”
